Kishoreganj District is an administrative division of Dhaka Division in central Bangladesh and the last district of Dhaka Division. Kishoreganj is an 'A' category district of Bangladesh in terms of the number of upazilas. The brand name of Kishoreganj district is "The combined stream of the upstream and the downstream, the river and the haor are full of fish". Kishoreganj is the second largest district of Dhaka Division. The city is located on the banks of the Narsunda River. Kishoreganj is also the administrative headquarters of Kishoreganj District and Sadar Upazila. The total population of Kishoreganj is 103,798, making it the 43rd most populous city in Bangladesh. According to historians, Kishoreganj was founded sometime after 1845. A famous businessman of the region was Krishnadas Basok, who traded in muslin cloth. Krishnadas Basok bought the zamindari of 32 Parganas during the reign of Nawab Siraj ud Daula. He built a beautiful three-storey palace to the south of the city. This picturesque Kishoreganj district, with its wide expanse of haors, was once part of the larger Mymensingh district.
Brief History of Kishoreganj District Judge Court:
In 1984, when all the subdivisions of the country were converted into districts, the District Judge Court program started in Kishoreganj at that time. At present, in addition to the District and Sessions Judge Courts, there are 10 Assistant Judge Courts, 03 Senior Assistant Judge Courts, 02 Joint District and Sessions Judge Courts, 04 Super District and Sessions Judge Courts in Kishoreganj district. There are also 02 Women and Children's Suppression Tribunals in Kishoreganj.
After the separation of the judiciary in 2007, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court was established in Kishoreganj. Currently, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, 01 Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, 06 Senior Judicial Magistrate Courts, 06 Judicial Magistrate Courts. The newly constructed Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Kishoreganj District was inaugurated by the Honorable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. Abdul Hamid, on 30/01/2022. This modern building has Bangabandhu Corner, Breastfeeding Corner for children, District Legal Aid Office and a rich library. There are also separate private rooms for each judge and a courtroom with modern facilities for judicial work.
There are a total of 18 civil chowki courts in Bangladesh. Which were established between 1880 and 1885. Among these 18 Chowki Courts, the Bajitpur Civil Chowki Court in Kishoreganj is one of them. During the British period, judges used to come here by steamer from the nearby Dilalpur Naughat in Bajitpur. Later, the present beautiful building of the Bajitpur Chowki Court was built in 1934. Civil proceedings of Bajitpur, Bhairab, Kuliarchar, Nikli and Ashtagram Upazilas are still being conducted in the Bajitpur Civil Chowki Court.
